Manual Swap Issues…

Since the manual conversion my brake/ABS/ Check Engine lights have been constantly on. I replaced the dummy speed sensor with a manual sensor,  installed a speedo gear in the differential, and used the MSP engine harness. My speedometer isn’t working at the moment but I’m thinking all of these issues can be fixed with the correct ECU. I tried installing a manual ECU from a Protege5 but the computer box wasn’t compatible since it had ABS and cruise control. So I went to the junk-yard and got a non ABS ECU. After installing and resetting the ECU, the same lights were still on.

Now its a matter of the engine bay wiring harness. Since the MSP wiring harness has unoccupied ABS connectors it always throws an ABS/ Brake error.  So my best bet is to change the whole engine bay harness  leading to the gas tank sensor from a 3rd generation manual non ABS/ Cruise control equipped Protege.

  1. Hey, really nice protege man! I love the two tone interior. I have a 2002 Protege5 automatic non-abs. I’ve been considering trying to do a manual swap for awhile now… If i were to do this would all i need is the manual trans (and supporting parts), manual non-abs ecu and the manual speed sensor?

    • Thanks alot :) If I recall correctly you will need the trans, shifter assembly + linkage, pedals, starter, matching ecu, speed sensor, full engine bay harness, axles and I think the starter harness as well. Do a search on mazdas247. Lots of info on there.
